Volunteer Opportunities

​MCIGS is currently looking for members who would like to share their skills and talents with others in the organization.  Some of these opportunities do not require that you live locally, or make a long-term time commitment. ​
Below is a list of volunteer opportunities we currently have available.  We hope you’ll take a few minutes to read the descriptions and decide how you would like to help.   If you'd like to become a volunteer or need further information please contact Susan Durbin our Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected]g

  • Meet & Greeter– Assist the Membership VP at the General Meeting by greeting members, distributing program handouts and collecting surveys at the end of the meeting.
  • Photographer – Take a few snapshots during the monthly meeting and upload them to the MCIGS Facebook page.
  • Sum it up! – Take notes at our monthly meeting and write a short article summarizing the general meeting for the newsletter. 
  • Newsletter Contributor – Share your family history by contributing an article(s) about your personal research.
  • Videographer – Make a video recording of the general meetings (when speaker allows) so the lecture can be added to the members’ only section of the website.
  • Newspaper Indexer – At the Woodstock Library, go through past issues of the Woodstock Sentinel newspaper for obituaries and death notices.
  • Scanning Assistant – Help digitize back issues of the various MCIGS books.
  • Look Ups - Help answer research questions, or do look-ups received via the website about local history or residents. 
  • MCIGS Website Reviewer – Review the MCIGS website.  Make content and / or format suggestions.  Check for broken links using our checklist to record your findings.
  • Newsletter Assistant – person needed to proofread the monthly newsletter.
